Eight Feet

This comes from an astronomy class when talking about distances in space.
Me: So if we imagine the Milky Way is a CD, the nearest galaxy to us, would be another CD eight (8) feet away.
Girl in class: So is that eight feet of CDs or eight feet from me to you?
Me: What do you mean?
GIC: Is that eight feet of distance or like, two CDs equal one foot, so it would be 24 CDs away?
Me: What?
Smart Student in class: Eight feet is eight feet.
GIC: What?
SSIC: Eight feet equals eight feet of CDs. Eight feet will always equal eight feet.
GIC: Oh. What? I'm confused.
Me: What is heavier, a ton of feathers or a ton of lead?
GIC: Lead?

You know, the big, hot, glowing, thingy?

When talking about how the Moon is slowly moving away from the Earth, and will eventually fly out into the solar system.
Girl: If the moon leaves then what are we going to do for light here on Earth?
Me: Well, we will still have the Sun.
Girl: Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
Me: How?
